HB 179 Summary

• Amends AS 41.21.502(a) to designate additional state-owned land and water as part of the Kenai River Special Management Area, including the Kenai River, Moose River, and Funny River corridors.

• Adds specific parcels in the Kenai Recording District to the management area, including named locations such as Kenai Keys, Bing's Landing, Izaak Walton, Morgan's Landing, and multiple other river access points and islands.

• Expands the designated area to include upland sections and stream corridors in the upper Kenai River region, including land near Kenai Lake and tributary streams such as Trail River, Quartz Creek, Dry Creek, and Cooper Creek.

• Applies to the surface estate only of both currently state-owned land and any land the state acquires in the future, including shore, tide, and submerged lands within the specified parcels.

• Removes from consideration a strip of land between the ordinary high water line of the Kenai River and EPF 21-11, Block 1 in Section 36 that was previously proposed for inclusion.
