CSHB 202(CRA) - Residential Sprinkler Systems

• Prohibits municipalities from requiring fire sprinkler systems in new single-family residential buildings or new residential buildings with not more than two dwelling units, unless adopted by ordinance.

• Allows municipalities to require sprinkler systems through ordinance, but only after meeting enhanced procedural requirements including publication at least 30 days before the first public hearing.

• Requires a minimum of three public hearings to be scheduled within 60 to 180 days before a municipality can adopt or amend an ordinance to require sprinkler systems in these residential buildings.

• Applies to both home rule and general law municipalities in Alaska.
