• Individuals age 18 or older may obtain prescriptions for, purchase, and administer epinephrine in emergency situations after completing department-approved training programs.

• Two types of training programs are required: one for epinephrine auto-injectors and one for epinephrine ampules, with separate department approval standards for each.

• Training programs must cover recognition of severe asthmatic or allergic reactions including anaphylaxis, proper storage and administration procedures, and emergency follow-up procedures.

• Individuals who complete approved training programs and act in good faith are protected from liability for administering epinephrine to another person in an emergency situation.

• The law defines "emergency situation" as a circumstance where a person experiences a severe allergic or asthmatic reaction requiring epinephrine and no certified or licensed health care provider is reasonably available.
