HB 306 - State Energy Policy

• Establishes legislative intent for Alaska to achieve a 15 percent increase in energy efficiency on a per capita basis between 2010 and 2020

• Sets goal for the state to receive 50 percent of its electric generation from renewable and alternative energy sources by 2025

• Creates state energy policy framework emphasizing energy efficiency, conservation, and development of renewable resources (geothermal, wind, solar, hydroelectric, tidal, biomass) alongside nonrenewable sources (natural gas, coal, oil, nuclear)

• Directs state to support energy research, education, and workforce development through training programs and applied research to reduce energy costs and stimulate industry investment

• Requires coordination of governmental energy functions through streamlined regulatory processes and designation of a single office or agency as clearinghouse for energy-related state functions
