HB 384 Summary

• Establishes licensure requirements for radiographers, radiation therapists, and nuclear medicine technologists under new Chapter 89 of Alaska Statutes, administered by the Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development.

• Creates full certificate and limited radiologic imager license categories with specific education, examination, and experience requirements; limited imagers may only perform chest, abdomen, and axial-appendicular skeleton radiography under supervision.

• Prohibits unlicensed practice and unauthorized use of professional titles as class A misdemeanors; allows limited exemptions for licensed practitioners, dental assistants, students, and military personnel under direct supervision.

• Establishes disciplinary sanctions including license revocation, suspension, probation, and reprimand for violations such as fraud, incompetence, practicing beyond scope, and interpreting diagnostic images.

• Takes effect July 1, 2010, except unlicensed practice and civil penalties provisions which take effect July 1, 2011.
