HB 73 Summary

• Authorizes the Alaska Department of Transportation to issue special license plates for active fire fighters and emergency medical service providers upon application and proof of current membership in a state-recognized fire department or certified emergency medical service.

• Authorizes issuance of special license plates for former fire fighters and emergency medical service providers who have at least 10 years of prior service with a state-recognized fire department or certified emergency medical service.

• Authorizes issuance of special license plates for members of fraternal organizations (civic, service, or charitable organizations that are branches of national organizations) upon application and proof of membership.

• Sets registration fees at $30 for active fire fighter and EMS provider plates, $50 for former fire fighter and EMS provider plates, and $50 for fraternal organization member plates; fees apply only on first issuance and replacement.

• Takes effect July 1, 2010.
