SB 115 Summary

• Establishes a rural community energy assistance program within the Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development to distribute grants to rural communities needing energy assistance.

• Department shall distribute grants using legislative appropriations to rural communities determined to be most in need of energy assistance.

• Department must adopt regulations under the Administrative Procedure Act (AS 44.62) to develop evaluation criteria for grant distribution, including requirements regarding community population and energy prices.

• Section 1 of the Act is repealed June 30, 2010, making this a temporary program.

• Act takes effect immediately upon passage.
