SB 144 Summary

• Amends Alaska statute to allow the Board of Game to reduce or eliminate the $500 resident musk oxen tag and fee for all or a portion of a game management unit, rather than limiting this authority to only establishing or closing open seasons.

• When the Board of Game has not reduced or eliminated the musk oxen tag and fee, the Department of Fish and Game shall conduct a drawing for permits to take musk oxen.

• When the Board of Game has reduced or eliminated the musk oxen tag and fee, the Department shall issue permits on a first-come, first-served basis in the order applications are received.

• Eliminates the requirement that a person cannot be eligible for more than one musk oxen permit per year.

• The Department may not charge residents an application fee for musk oxen permits when the tag and fee have been reduced or eliminated; otherwise the application fee is $10.
