SB 240 - Manicurist Licensing Requirements

• Removes the "advanced manicurist" endorsement category and eliminates the requirement for applicants to take a board examination to become licensed as a limited manicurist.

• Requires applicants for full manicuring licenses to complete all board-approved manicuring curriculum courses, establishing separate licensing tracks for manicuring and limited manicuring.

• Mandates that limited manicurists complete a 12-hour course covering health, safety, and hygiene concerns from a licensed school of manicuring or hairdressing.

• Allows hairdressing instructors to teach limited manicuring courses and requires the board to adopt regulations for other manicuring instructor requirements through existing regulatory authority.

• Establishes transitional provisions allowing existing manicuring licensees and advanced manicurist endorsement holders to maintain their licenses with extensions of up to 12 months and requires them to pass an examination upon renewal.

• Takes effect July 1, 2010, except for immediate adoption of implementing regulations.
