SB 251 - Interstate Nurse Licensure Compact

• Enacts the Interstate Nurse Licensure Compact into Alaska law, allowing nurses licensed in their home state to practice in other participating states through multistate licensure privileges without obtaining separate licenses.

• Establishes a coordinated licensure information system administered by a nonprofit organization controlled by state nursing boards to collect and share information on nurse licensure, discipline, and adverse actions among participating states.

• Grants all participating states authority to take action against a nurse's multistate privilege (revocation, suspension, probation) and requires states to report adverse actions and significant investigative information through the coordinated system.

• Requires nurses practicing in any participating state to comply with that state's practice laws where care is rendered and subjects them to jurisdiction of that state's licensing board and courts.

• Designates the chair of Alaska's nursing board to appoint a compact administrator to cooperate with state departments and agencies in administering the compact.
