SB 255 Summary

• Allows the Alaska Department of Fish and Game to share fish purchase records and reports with the National Marine Fisheries Service to enforce industry fee systems under federal fishing capacity reduction programs authorized by 16 U.S.C. 1861a.

• Requires fish processors to agree to pay any industry fees levied under a fishing capacity reduction program as a condition of obtaining and maintaining a fisheries business license.

• Makes fish processors ineligible for a fisheries business license if they have unpaid industry fees determined by the National Marine Fisheries Service, subject to due process requirements and exhaustion of federal administrative remedies.

• Takes effect immediately upon enactment.
