SB 34 Summary

• Department of Transportation and Public Facilities shall study the feasibility of using compressed natural gas to power state and private vehicles in Alaska.

• Study must review government programs and incentives from Utah and other North American jurisdictions, evaluate environmental benefits and technical merits, and analyze economic and technological advantages and disadvantages.

• If warranted by findings, study shall include a pilot program proposal recommending cost-effective departments and locations, expansion potential, and detailed cost estimates for vehicle purchases, conversions, maintenance, fueling infrastructure, and personnel training.

• Department shall submit report containing study results to the legislature by December 1, 2009, with notification to legislature when report becomes available.
