CSSB 71(RES) - Alternative Energy Systems for Public Works

• Requires the state department to review viable alternative energy systems for heat or electrical power when preparing plans and specifications for public works construction under AS 35.10.010.

• Mandates that public works be constructed to accommodate or remain compatible with viable alternative energy systems if such systems are currently available or the department determines they will become available.

• Defines "viable alternative energy system" as a nonfossil fuel system that costs no more than a fossil fuel system over the facility's lifetime to purchase, install, maintain, and operate.

• Requires that viable alternative energy systems must have less measurable adverse environmental effects than comparable fossil fuel systems.
