Alaska Legislature urges U.S. Congress to pass H.R. 1633, the "Honor the Written Intent of our Soldier Heroes Act" (also called the Honor the WISH Act)

Current federal law under 10 U.S.C. 1482(c) restricts service members from designating anyone other than a surviving spouse, blood relative, or adoptive relative to direct disposal of their remains

H.R. 1633 would amend federal law to allow service members to designate any person they wish to direct the disposition of their remains, regardless of relationship

Service members deploying on combat operations complete DD Form 93 to express last wishes regarding memorial services and burial arrangements with expectation those wishes will be honored

Copies of the resolution shall be sent to U.S. Secretaries of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, Alaska's Governor, and Alaska's congressional delegation
