HB 229 Summary

• Creates a new retired status license for individuals who have retired from guiding or outfitting; retired license holders may not guide, outfit, or take charge of a camp but may apply for new active licenses.

• Allows the Big Game Commercial Services Board to adopt regulations establishing a code of ethics, written contract requirements for hunting services, and authorization for the department to request copies of contracts entered into by licensed individuals.

• Permits a registered guide-outfitter to employ another registered guide-outfitter as a class-A assistant guide if the employee demonstrates adequate knowledge and experience in the applicable game management unit.

• Authorizes the board to suspend or permanently revoke a transporter license or guide license if the licensee engaged in conduct involving unprofessionalism, moral turpitude, or gross immorality.

• Establishes suspension and revocation penalties for misdemeanor offenses, including mandatory suspensions of 1-5 years for certain offenses and 3+ years or permanent revocation for serious violations.
