HB 28 Summary

• Establishes temporary courtesy licenses for spouses of active duty military members assigned to Alaska, valid for 180 days and extendable for one additional 180-day period, if the spouse holds an equivalent license from another state and meets other requirements.

• Exempts active duty military members stationed in combat zones, danger pay posts, or qualified hazardous duty areas from paying licensing fees and meeting license maintenance requirements, with exemption valid for 180 days after returning to permanent duty station.

• Authorizes pawnbrokers operating in Alaska on July 1, 2011, without a municipal license to obtain temporary state licenses valid until December 31, 2011, if they apply before September 2, 2011.

• Excludes the practice of law and attorney regulation from the military courtesy license provisions.

• Makes Section 3 regarding pawnbroker transition licenses effective immediately.
