HB 295 Summary

• Approves interim classifications by the Commissioner of Natural Resources closing state land within the upper Glacier Creek and Winner Creek drainages near Girdwood to new mineral entry.

• Closes approximately 5,740 acres of state-owned land in the specified drainages to new mineral entry under AS 38.05.300(c), subject to existing valid rights.

• Amends the mineral entry closure previously established in section 2, chapter 8, SLA 2003, with revised land descriptions across four townships and ranges in the Seward Meridian.

• Reserves the closed mineral estate for recreational development opportunities consistent with state and Municipality of Anchorage land use plans, recognizing that mineral entry would be incompatible with existing and proposed surface-based recreational facilities.

• Takes effect immediately upon enactment under AS 01.10.070(c).
