Persons who sought nomination or became candidates for elective municipal, state, or federal office during the preceding year are ineligible to serve on state boards, commissions, or authorities unless holding that office is required by law for appointment.

Current members of state boards, commissions, or authorities must terminate membership if they seek nomination or become a candidate for elective office, except when standing for reelection to the same office while serving as an ex officio member.

Candidacy is defined as indicating intent under Alaska Public Offices Commission regulations, filing nominating petitions, filing declarations of candidacy, or campaigning as a write-in candidate for municipal, state, or federal office.

Repeals AS 39.25.160(e)(8).

Applies to board members and appointees seeking candidacy on or after the effective date of the Act; directs revisor to change AS 39.05.100 heading from "Qualifications for appointment" to "Qualifications for appointment and service."
