Health care insurers in Alaska must provide coverage for diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorders, including pharmacy care, psychiatric care, psychological care, habilitative/rehabilitative care, and therapeutic care such as applied behavior analysis

Coverage is limited to individuals under 21 years of age, with no limit on the number of visits to an autism service provider

Insurers cannot refuse to issue, amend, renew, or terminate coverage because an individual is diagnosed with or receives treatment for autism spectrum disorders

Treatment must be prescribed by a licensed physician or psychologist, provided by a state-licensed or nationally-certified autism service provider, and based on a treatment plan following comprehensive evaluation

Applies to health insurance policies offered, issued, delivered, or renewed on or after January 1, 2012; fraternal benefit societies are exempt
