Alaska Arctic Policy Commission (HCR 23)

• Creates Alaska Arctic Policy Commission in the legislative branch with 20 members and 4 alternates representing state legislators, federal government, tribal entities, industries (mining, oil/gas, fishing, marine transportation), universities, local governments, conservation groups, Native corporations, and marine pilots

• Commission duties include conducting public hearings throughout the state and developing a comprehensive Arctic policy and implementation strategy for Alaska

• Commission must deliver preliminary findings report to legislature by January 30, 2014, and final report with legislative proposals by January 30, 2015

• Public members and federal member (if not federally reimbursed) receive per diem and travel expenses; two senators and two representatives serve as cochairs with authority to assign staff support

• Commission continuation or termination will be reevaluated during the First Regular Session of the Twenty-Ninth Alaska State Legislature
