SB 16 Summary

• Authorizes the Alaska Department of Transportation to issue special request "Choose Life" license plates upon application by motor vehicle owners, with design and color determined by the commissioner in consultation with Alaska Choose Life.

• Authorizes the department to issue special request "Pro-Family, Pro-Choice" license plates upon application by motor vehicle owners, with design and color determined by the commissioner in consultation with Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest.

• Establishes a $30 biennial fee for each plate type, collected in addition to standard vehicle registration fees and deposited in the general fund.

• Directs revenue from "Choose Life" plates in excess of issuance costs to be appropriated by the legislature to programs supporting or benefiting adoption.

• Directs revenue from "Pro-Family, Pro-Choice" plates in excess of issuance costs to be appropriated to the Alaska Children's Trust, effective January 1, 2012.
