SB 170 Summary

• Requires all Alaska public school districts to deliver vocational education and training counseling to students in grades 7, 9, and 11
• Obligates the state Department of Education to provide additional resources and technical assistance to school districts unable to deliver the counseling due to lack of resources or technical expertise
• Allows school districts to maintain existing vocational counseling schedules that were in place before the effective date of the Act
• Districts unable to provide counseling must request departmental resources and technical assistance rather than decline to offer the program
• Amends AS 14.07.020(a) and AS 14.14.090 to establish these requirements
