SB 1 Summary

• Establishes May 10 of each year as Alaska Mining Day to recognize and honor individuals and the mining industry's role in settling, developing, and contributing to Alaska's economy

• Acknowledges mining as a driving force behind the creation of the Alaska Railroad in the early 20th century and notes ongoing development of mineral resources, including rare earth minerals, contributes to state and national security and economy

• Permits Alaska Mining Day to be observed through educational and celebratory events, projects, and activities designed to increase public awareness and appreciation for mining, miners, and the uses of mined minerals in Alaska

• Takes effect immediately upon passage under AS 01.10.070(c)
