CS FOR SENATE BILL NO. 4(STA)

• Requires the Department and applicable boards to accept military education, training, and service as equivalent to occupational licensing qualifications if applicants provide satisfactory evidence of completion in U.S. Armed Forces, Reserves, National Guard, Military Reserves, or Naval Militia of any state.

• Authorizes temporary occupational licenses valid for 180 days for active duty military members who held a current license in another state with practice experience or earned a military degree/diploma meeting equivalent standards.

• Requires the University of Alaska to implement policy accepting academic credit toward degrees and technical programs based on satisfactory evidence of relevant military education, training, or service.

• Requires postsecondary educational institutions and vocational/technical training centers to accept military education, training, or service credit toward degree or technical programs if the institution otherwise accepts transfer credits and the process meets accrediting body requirements.

• Sections 1-4 take effect December 31, 2013; Section 5 (allowing immediate regulation adoption) takes effect immediately.
