HB 107 Summary

• Restructures the University of Alaska Board of Regents to consist of 8 members: one resident each from Fairbanks North Star Borough, Municipality of Anchorage, Matanuska-Susitna Borough, Kenai Peninsula Borough, City and Borough of Juneau, and a remote community not connected by road or rail to Anchorage or Fairbanks, plus one student member and four at-large members

• Requires all Board of Regents members to be United States citizens

• Requires appointees to regional positions (positions 1-6) to have established residency in their designated region for at least two years before appointment, though members may complete their terms if they later lose residency

• Allows existing Board members serving on the effective date to complete their remaining terms under previous composition rules

• Applies new residency and citizenship requirements only to vacancies and newly expired terms occurring after the effective date
