Law enforcement agencies and state departments must conduct an inventory of untested sexual assault examination kits by September 1, 2015, and report the number of kits and collection dates to the Department of Public Safety.

Department of Public Safety must prepare and transmit a report to the legislature by November 1, 2015, containing the number of untested kits by agency, collection dates, and a plan to address and prevent future backlogs.

Department of Public Safety must deliver copies of the report to the senate secretary and chief clerk of the house of representatives and notify the legislature of its availability.

"Untested sexual assault examination kit" is defined as evidence that has been collected but not submitted to a Department-operated or approved laboratory for serological or DNA testing, or submitted but not yet tested.

The act takes effect immediately upon passage.
