HB 131 Summary

• Removes requirement that manicurist applicants pass a board-conducted examination for licensure, instead requiring 250 hours of instruction from an approved school and passage of written or oral examination.

• Establishes apprenticeship option for manicuring licensure with apprenticeship period to be set by board regulation and served in board-approved shop.

• Allows hairdressing-licensed persons to use title "licensed nail technician" and permits hairdressing instructors to teach basic manicuring courses without additional requirements.

• Removes separate "advanced manicurist" endorsement category and consolidates advanced manicuring requirements into the standard manicuring license framework.

• Effective date January 1, 2016, with transitional provisions allowing current manicuring license holders to renew if they complete 250 hours work experience and pass examination by August 31, 2017.
