AK HB3

Adds a new death benefit provision providing one year of health insurance coverage for surviving spouses, widows, widowers, and children of police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical technicians who die from work-related injuries.

Health insurance coverage must be the same or substantially the same as the employer-provided insurance the deceased had at the time of death, beginning the day after death or when employer coverage terminates, whichever is later.

Defines "emergency medical technician" to include volunteer EMTs and employees certified under AS 18.08 employed to provide emergency medical services.

Defines "firefighter" to include municipal fire department employees, volunteer firefighters, and those registered with the state fire marshal.

Defines "police officer" to include state and municipal police employees with arrest authority, airport police officers, University of Alaska public safety officers, and volunteer police officers.
