AK HB30

Requires school districts to develop and approve a curriculum segment on the history of American constitutionalism for all students.

Mandates that the curriculum cover the Declaration of Independence, first state constitutions, Articles of Confederation, U.S. Constitution, Federalist Papers, Bill of Rights, and other founding documents.

Prohibits school districts from issuing secondary school diplomas to students who do not successfully complete the course containing the required constitutionalism curriculum segment.

Establishes that understanding American constitutionalism helps students make evidence-based decisions about civic judgments, rights, and duties.

Takes effect July 1, 2015.
