AK HB4002

Expands medical insurance coverage under the Public Employees' Retirement System of Alaska to surviving spouses and dependent children of deceased peace officers and firefighters who are eligible for pension benefits under AS 39.35.430.

Allows dependent children of deceased peace officers or firefighters to receive medical reimbursement even if there is no surviving spouse, extending coverage to families where the surviving parent is not eligible for benefits.

Limits medical benefits for surviving spouses of deceased peace officers and firefighters to 10 years or until the surviving spouse remarries, whichever occurs first.

Exempts surviving spouses and dependent children of deceased peace officers and firefighters from paying premiums for major medical insurance coverage.

Makes the changes retroactive to January 1, 2013, with the act taking effect January 1, 2017.
