HB 45 Summary

• Requires the Department of Motor Vehicles to provide a voluntary method for individuals to designate on identification cards that they are physically disabled, cognitively disabled, or both.

• Requires the Department of Motor Vehicles to provide a voluntary method for individuals to designate on driver's licenses that they are physically disabled, cognitively disabled, or both.

• Requires proof of disability from a licensed physician, physician assistant, or advanced nurse practitioner to receive the designation on either identification card or driver's license.

• Allows individuals to cancel the disability designation at any time.

• Permits the state to charge a $5 fee for replacing an identification card or driver's license to add or remove a disability designation, and directs law enforcement officers to check for disability designations during investigations related to a person's mental or physical state.
