Schools cannot issue secondary school diplomas to students unless they pass a civics examination based on the 100 questions from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services naturalization test, or receive a waiver.

A passing score on the civics examination is defined as at least 60 percent correct responses.

Students with disabilities may receive a waiver from the civics examination requirement from the governing body.

Schools must document on student transcripts that students who pass the civics examination have received a passing score.

The State Board of Education shall adopt regulations implementing the civics examination provisions, including standards for waivers and special accommodations for students with disabilities, effective July 1, 2016.
