Requires retailers to label food wholly or partially produced with genetic engineering as "produced with genetic engineering" or "genetically engineered" for raw agricultural commodities, and "partially produced with genetic engineering" or "may be partially produced with genetic engineering" for processed foods.

Prohibits labeling genetically engineered food with terms like "natural," "naturally made," "naturally grown," or "all natural" that could mislead consumers about genetic engineering use.

Exempts from labeling requirements: genetically modified fish, food from animals fed genetically engineered products, non-genetically engineered food with supplier documentation, food using genetically engineered processing aids or enzymes, alcoholic beverages, processed food with less than 0.9% genetically engineered ingredients before July 1, 2019, food prepared for immediate consumption, and medical food.

Shields retail sellers from civil or criminal liability for failure to label processed food unless they are the producer/manufacturer or sell it under their own brand.

Takes effect January 1, 2016.
