Schools may not issue secondary school diplomas to students unless they pass an examination based on the 100 civics questions from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services naturalization test, unless they receive a waiver.

A passing score is defined as at least 60 percent correct responses on the civics examination.

Students with disabilities may receive a waiver from the governing body instead of taking the civics examination.

Schools must document on student transcripts that students who passed the civics examination met this graduation requirement.

The State Board of Education shall adopt regulations implementing the civics examination provisions, including standards for waivers and provisions for students with disabilities, effective July 1, 2016.
