SB 166 Summary

• Requires the Board of Dental Examiners, State Medical Board, Board of Nursing, Board of Examiners in Optometry, and Board of Pharmacy to provide information to licensees about registering with the controlled substance prescription database when licenses are issued, reinstated, or renewed.

• Allows pharmacists and practitioners to voluntarily register with the controlled substance prescription database to prescribe or dispense schedule I-V controlled substances.

• Requires the Board of Pharmacy to notify other professional boards when a practitioner registers with the database.

• Permits the Board of Pharmacy to provide database reports to registered practitioners or pharmacists on its own initiative.

• Takes effect January 1, 2017, except transition regulations authority takes effect July 1, 2016.
