AK SB170

Authorizes the Division of Geological and Geophysical Surveys within the Department of Natural Resources to charge and collect fees for facilities, equipment, products, and services including sample storage rental, sample viewing facilities, retrieval and processing of geological materials, equipment use, and analyses and reports.

Requires the division to establish fees through regulation after considering the cost of operations, fees charged by similar governmental and nongovernmental entities, fee collection administration costs, and public interest at public hearings.

Waives all fees for students using division facilities, equipment, products, or services for educational purposes.

Directs fees collected to be separately accounted for as program receipts under Alaska statute AS 37.05.142 rather than paid into the general fund.

Takes effect July 1, 2016, with regulations authorized to be adopted immediately under the Administrative Procedure Act.
