School districts must establish guidelines requiring schools to provide opportunities for students in grades kindergarten through eight to engage in a minimum of 90 percent of the daily amount of physical activity recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Physical activity time may include both structured physical education classes and unstructured activities such as recess.

Students may be excused from physical activity opportunities if unable to participate for medical reasons.

School districts must provide exemptions from physical activity opportunities for health and safety reasons, such as inclement weather.

"District" is defined according to AS 14.17.990.
