Each law enforcement agency and state department must conduct an inventory of untested sexual assault examination kits by July 1, 2015, and report findings in writing to the attorney general, including the number of kits and collection dates.

The attorney general shall prepare and transmit a report to the legislature by September 1, 2015, containing the number of untested kits stored by each agency, collection dates for each kit, and a plan to address the backlog and prevent future backlogs.

The attorney general must deliver the report to the senate secretary and chief clerk of the house of representatives and notify the legislature of its availability.

"Untested sexual assault examination kit" is defined as a kit that has been collected but not submitted to a Department of Public Safety laboratory for serological or DNA testing.

The act takes effect immediately upon enactment.
