SJR 301 Summary

• Alaska legislature opposes the October 16, 2015 federal decision to cancel future oil and gas lease sales in the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas and to deny Shell and Statoil's lease suspension requests

• Urges the U.S. Department of the Interior to continue promoting oil and gas exploration in the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas and to reconsider cancellation of lease sales scheduled for 2016 and 2017

• Urges the U.S. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement to reconsider and approve Shell and Statoil's requests for lease suspensions in the Chukchi Sea and Beaufort Sea planning areas

• Urges Alaska's Congressional delegation to achieve equitable outer continental shelf revenue sharing comparable to the 37.5 percent share granted to Gulf of Mexico states, and urges Congress to extend revenue sharing to all coastal oil and gas producing states

• Estimates Alaska would have received $942-$1.3 billion in additional revenue since 2003 under equitable revenue sharing to support infrastructure, emergency response, and environmental monitoring
