HB 150 Summary

• Establishes that organized militia members receive pay equal to regular U.S. armed forces members in the same grade and rank when authorized for active state service by the governor or adjutant general.

• Removes previous pay provisions for Alaska State Defense Force members based on state official salary schedules and instead provides allowances under the same conditions as state officials and employees under AS 39.20.110-39.20.170.

• Prohibits pay or allowances for training or community service activities of Alaska State Defense Force members.

• Authorizes Alaska National Guard and Alaska Naval Militia members to receive state employee benefits when on active state service for training or full-time duty with the office of the adjutant general, provided they otherwise qualify for such benefits.

• Clarifies that Alaska State Defense Force members are not state employees and are not entitled to retirement benefits, though they receive workers' compensation benefits as if they were state employees.
