HB 214 Summary

• Department of Education and Early Development must develop and approve a teen dating violence and abuse awareness and prevention program for grades 7-12 in consultation with school districts

• Program must include training for employees and students, provide parent notices, and be periodically reviewed by qualified individuals or committees against accepted standards

• Training and notices must cover age-appropriate information, warning signs of dating violence, characteristics of healthy relationships, prevention measures, community resources, and allow students to opt out with written parental request

• February is established as Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month to be observed by schools, community groups, and public and private agencies with activities promoting awareness and prevention

• The program is officially named the Bree Moore Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Program
