HB 298 Summary

• Increases total number of superior court judges in Alaska from 42 to 43 judges statewide

• Increases superior court judges in the first judicial district from five to six judges

• Maintains three judges in the second judicial district, 26 judges in the third judicial district, and eight judges in the fourth judicial district

• Requires the judicial council to designate the district in which appointees are to reside and serve when submitting nominee names to the governor for vacancies

• Takes effect July 1, 2018
