CSHB 407(STA) Summary

• Eliminates requirement for Alaska Public Offices Commission to establish regional offices in each senate district; requires only a central office to maintain public inspection copies of all filed reports.

• Clarifies cash contribution limits to $100 per calendar year for candidates, individuals, and groups, with the $100 limit applying on an annual rather than per-transaction basis.

• Changes group contribution reporting threshold from $100 to $100 in the aggregate in a calendar year before detailed contributor information must be disclosed.

• Increases timeframe for commission executive director to recommend draft advisory opinions from seven calendar days to seven business days after receiving a request.

• Makes campaign finance statements and reports available to the public at the commission's central office and Internet website only, removing requirements to maintain copies at lieutenant governor's office, legislative reference library, and district offices.

• Repeals reporting requirement for certain contributions under AS 15.13.040(k).

• Effective date: January 1, 2019.
