SB 215 Summary: Multi-Line Telephone Systems

• Municipalities may require multi-line telephone system operators to comply with enhanced 911 standards when the operator upgrades an existing system or installs a new system after January 1, 2019.

• Required systems must allow direct 911 dialing without additional codes and provide verified automated location information including street address, callback number, building/floor numbers, and room designations.

• Location databases must be updated as soon as practicable after system installation and within one business day after any system or facility changes.

• Information in location databases is owned by the system operator, cannot be shared except as required by law, and may only be used by emergency responders to facilitate 911 emergency response.

• Multi-line telephone systems not required to comply and lacking direct 911 dialing must post visible notices near each telephone in bold 16-point font explaining how to access 911 services and providing location information.
