CS for Senate Bill No. 65(RES) - Jonesville Public Use Area

• Establishes the Jonesville Public Use Area to protect year-round general public recreation, maintain fish and wildlife habitat, and provide opportunities for off-road vehicles and nonmotorized recreational activities on state-owned land.

• Allows continued mineral exploration and development, motorized access to private property within the area, and specific recreational uses including all-terrain vehicles, aircraft, hunting, fishing, camping, and rifle ranges.

• Assigns management authority to the commissioner of natural resources for surface and subsurface estates, with the commissioner required to adopt a management plan after public hearings and consult with the Department of Fish and Game.

• Prohibits the commissioner from restricting lawful hunting, fishing, trapping, firearm use (except where public safety threatened), or mineral exploration activities within the area.

• Designates designated peace officers to enforce provisions and establish penalties for violations as defined in AS 11.81.900, with the supreme court to establish a bail schedule within 90 days of regulation adoption.
