Extends the duration of protective orders for stalking and sexual assault from 6 months to one year.

Allows courts to deny petitions for protective orders based solely on time lapse between the assault and filing, prior protective orders based on the same conduct, or previous court findings that declined relief without evidence of changed circumstances.

Creates a new extension process allowing petitioners to petition for extensions within 30 days before or 60 days after expiration, effective for one additional year if the court finds extension necessary.

Applies the same denial prohibitions and extension procedures to domestic violence protective orders under AS 18.66.100.

Makes amendments retroactively applicable to protective orders issued before, on, or after the effective date of the act.
