Department of Health and Social Services must apply for a federal section 1115 waiver to establish work requirements for adults eligible for state medical assistance under AS 47.07.020.

Recipients subject to the work requirement must demonstrate participation in work activities for a minimum of 20 hours per week by providing proof of employment, active job seeking, educational/training programs, volunteering, subsistence activities, or caregiving.

Recipients may satisfy the requirement by participating in the Alaska temporary assistance program and complying with its work activities requirement.

Exemptions apply to persons under 18 or 65 and older, parents/caretakers of young or disabled children, caregivers of disabled relatives, pregnant individuals, those unable to work for medical reasons, those receiving unemployment benefits, and tribal work program participants.

Department must notify all medical assistance recipients of the work requirement within 90 days of waiver approval and terminate coverage for noncompliant recipients at least 90 days after providing notice.
