CS FOR HB 183 - Alaska Psychiatric Institute Staffing and Wages

• Department of Health and Social Services must report annually to the legislature on employee vacancies, recruitment efforts, and staffing needs if unable to meet safe staffing standards for the state psychiatric hospital's adult civil unit in Anchorage.

• Hospital employees at the Alaska Psychiatric Institute in Anchorage must be compensated at not less than the current prevailing wage rate for similar work in Anchorage, as determined by the Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

• State psychiatric hospital must continuously maintain and operate at least 60 beds in an adult civil unit and 10 beds in a youth civil unit, with safe staffing standards developed and implemented for both units.

• Prevailing wage requirements apply to new, amended, extended, or renewed contracts on or after the effective date of the Act.

• Adult civil unit bed requirement effective January 1, 2021; youth civil unit bed requirement effective July 1, 2021.
