Department of Education shall consolidate Alaska's school districts from 54 to 18 school districts statewide.

Consolidation of regional educational attendance areas must be based on common geographic or cultural needs as determined by the department.

School board member terms terminate when a new school board is established following consolidation.

All contracts, rights, liabilities, obligations, records, equipment, and property of consolidated districts transfer to the resulting consolidated school district.

Consolidated district designation follows these rules: regional educational attendance area + city district = city district; regional educational attendance area + borough district = borough district; city + borough district = designation of district with higher student enrollment (ADM).

Act takes effect July 1, 2020.
