CSHB 57(STA) - Child Labor Hours

• Expands work hours for minors ages 14-15 during summer (June 1 through first Monday of September) to between 4:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., outside of school terms.

• Limits summer employment for ages 14-15 to 40 hours per week and 8 hours per day when the special summer provision applies.

• Maintains existing restrictions for all minors under 16: maximum 9 combined hours of school and work per day and 23 hours per week year-round (excluding domestic work and babysitting).

• Requires the Commissioner of Labor and Workforce Development to immediately request a federal waiver from the U.S. Secretary of Labor to comply with 29 C.F.R. 570.35(a).

• New summer work provisions take effect only upon federal waiver approval, with a deadline of January 1, 2029 for the commissioner to notify the revisor of statutes that the waiver has been granted.
